Mosman Bowling Club
Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore) (17:57:19):
This year Mosman Bowling Club celebrated its 120th birthday. Formerly known as Mosman Recreation Club, it began prior to 1901. Lawn bowls commenced at the club in 1902 when the greens were completed and the club was officially opened. Until the club amalgamated with the Mosman Women's Bowling Club in the seventies, membership was exclusively for men. I acknowledge the Mosman Bowling Club board members: patron, Ian Renton; president, Jenny Hole; treasurer, Richard O'Brien; secretary, Paul Ward Harvey; and directors Barbara Anderson, Scott Denham, Caroline Duhigg, Stephen Lewis, Bruce Bodinnar and Robin Bower. When the club celebrated its 120th birthday recently, it also farewelled Ian Renton. Ian joined the club in 1988 and will soon move interstate. He was chairman of Project 2000, the goal of which was to overcome membership complacency and grow member numbers. It was a great success and increased the club's membership by over 50 per cent. Ian also served as president from 2002 until 2005. As patron, Ian has kept all members entertained on Patrons Day, which is filled with fun and frivolity. He has convened monthly lunches and served on various subcommittees. I congratulate Ian and Mosman Bowling Club.
