Blues Point Bookshop
Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore) (14:55:38):
The spirit of my local community across the North Shore is truly second to none and was on clear display when Blues Point Bookshop, which had been in place for 30 years, had to relocate. The owner, Helen, reached out to the community to ask it to lend a hand. After more than 30 years at the same address, fortunately for McMahons Point locals, it has moved only just across the street. Helen and Blues Point Bookshop are local institutions. Helen's passion for books and dedication to fostering a welcoming atmosphere have made the bookshop a cherished local hub for readers of all ages. The community was able to return the favour to Helen, as droves of locals headed to McMahons Point to help move the shop to its new location. With a crowd of 50 people moving over 8,000 books convoy-style across the road, the entire shop was moved in just 15 minutes, which was a simply incredible effort. I acknowledge the kindness and determination of all the locals who helped out on the day, and I thank Helen for being such an important part of our local community, supporting us and getting us involved in reading and for always greeting everyone with a friendly smile.
