2024 Nutcote Gumnut Fair
Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)
—Speaker May Gibbs' Nutcote is a historic landmark in Kurraba Point and is deeply cherished by the North Shore community. It is fondly remembered as the former harbourside residence of May Gibbs, the beloved author and illustrator of the Snugglepot and Cuddlepie children's books. Now a stunningly preserved museum, Nutcote was the first site in the state to receive a commemorative New South Wales Blue Plaque in recognition of its significant contribution to local heritage. One of the highlights of the year for Nutcote is the annual Gumnut Fair, which serves as the biggest fundraiser for this community‑run museum. Each year, the fair presents a variety of family-friendly activities, and this year was no exception. My children loved exploring the whimsical world of May Gibbs, taking part in the prize wheel, and enjoying the Nutcote raffle. They especially loved the face painting and the homemade cakes and treats. I thank the entire team at the May Gibbs Nutcote Foundation for all their hard work in making this year's Gumnut Fair a resounding success. I am incredibly grateful to see the heritage of our community being preserved and May Gibbs' legacy brought to life.
