Australia's Youngest Jui-Jitsu Champion

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)

—Speaker I want to extend my warmest congratulations to Mosman local India Risby, who has made history by becoming Australia's youngest Jui-Jitsu World Champion at just 18. In November last year, India flew to Abu Dhabi to compete in the Brazilian Jui-Jitsu World Champions, where she claimed gold. What's just as impressive is that while she was training for World Championships, India was simultaneously completing her HSC at Mosman High School. India would take her schoolwork with her to training and study between sessions – a testament to her discipline and determination. In addition to her World Champion status, India is a four-time national champion, a two-time Pan Pacific champion, and holds multiple state championships. India also spent 2023 as the Gracie Barra Oceania Ambassador, representing one of the largest Brazilian Jui-Jitsu organisations in the world. India's dedication, hard work, and talent have truly set her apart. I love seeing young women pursuing and succeeding at their ambitions. What a fantastic role model for all young Aussie athletes.
