HMAS Penguin Run-Swim-Run
Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)
—I recognise the incredible efforts of HMAS Penguin in hosting their third annual Run-Swim-Run event at their Middle Head Navy Base. This year was particularly special as, for the first time, the race was opened to the wider community, allowing locals to compete alongside serving Navy personnel in celebration of Navy Week. Participants took on a 4km run and 400m swim, competing across multiple categories, including opens, veterans, masters, youths, and walkers. It was fantastic to see so many people come together to test their endurance and celebrate the strength and resilience that our navy embodies. I enjoyed joining the competitors on the course and sneaking a behind-the-scenes look at the naval base. I congratulate the Opens 1category winners (18–36 years): Connor Daff and Tyla Douglas-Ramirez, as well as the Veterans' category winners (36-50 years), Rebecca Anderson, and Daniel Robinson, who represents the first civilian to win at an HMAS Penguin Run-Swim-Run event. A heartfelt thank you goes to the organisers, participants, and the entire team at HMAS Penguin for making this event so memorable. I look forward to seeing the continued bond between the community and Defence Force in the years to come.
