I speak about a significant victory for the residents and businesses of North Sydney, which highlights the power of community action and the importance of transparent governance. Just last month, the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal [IPART] formally rejected North Sydney Council's application for an 87.05 per cent rate hike over two years, which included a 95.7 per cent hike in minimum rates for residential properties and a 95.8 per cent increase for businesses. The decision was a direct response to widespread community opposition and a failure by the council to justify such a substantial financial burden on its constituents.
