Wenona and Youth Off the Streets Unite Through Sport

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)

—I want to commend the remarkable initiative and community spirit demonstrated by Wenona School and Youth Off The Streets in hosting the inaugural Wenona–Youth Off The Streets Sports Gala. This vibrant event brought together 67 Wenona Youth Alliance members and students from seven Youth Off The Streets schools in a day filled with sport, camaraderie, and mutual respect. From ultimate frisbee and netball to football, vortex relays, and a spirited tug-of-war, the gala was a powerful celebration of inclusivity, resilience, and the unifying power of sport. The genesis of this partnership—a challenge issued by Youth Off The Streets CEO Judy Barraclough during a Year 11 Renaissance Studies class—speaks volumes about the creativity and commitment of both organisations to meaningful service and youth empowerment. Events like these strengthen the social fabric of our communities and offer young people a platform to engage, learn, and lead. I applaud Wenona School, Youth Off The Streets, and all involved for their dedication to fostering empathy, leadership, and a true sense of belonging.
