Garry Standen is North Shore Senior Volunteer of the Year 2025

—A sincere congratulations to Garry Standen after the Taronga Zoo volunteer was crowned North Shore Senior Volunteer of the Year as part of the Volunteer of the Year Awards. Garry gives up his free time to support the People and Culture Team at Taronga Zoo, designing and building e‑learning and staff recognition programs. Garry has also assisted the volunteer team at the zoo with administrative work over the past seven years. We are grateful to volunteers like Garry who work hard to make our community a better place and ask for little in return and I was delighted to attend the awards to give my thanks personally. Taronga Zoo is an important place for Sydneysiders, and for global conservation, and volunteers play an essential role in the day-to-day operations of the facility. Taronga Zoo has more than 600 volunteers like Garry performing over 40 different roles, enabling people from all backgrounds, experience levels and expertise to contribute to Taronga's mission to securing a shared future for wildlife and people. I congratulate Garry on this achievement.
