Mosman Art Prize 2025

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)

—I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the team at the Mosman Art Gallery for organising another successful art prize competition in 2025. The brilliant Mosman Art Prize is now in its 78th year and is Australia's longest-running municipal art award. It is widely regarded as the most respected and relevant painting prize in the country. The winner of the prize for 2025 is Indigenous Painter Mark Maurangi Carrol for his work blue boat (crowd on the island of Mangaia). In Mark's own words, the painting "Reimagines a 1900 photograph taken by Frederick W. Sears on the island of Mangaia, where a crowd observes the government vessel Tutanaekai." Five further art awards - in addition to the acquisitive major prize won by Mark - were also awarded as part of the competition. This year, the art prize received over 1,400 entries from across the country, with 72 finalists featuring in the exhibition. The scope of entries shows the prestige attached to the Mosman Art Gallery and its annual art prize and this is due to the hard work of Steven Alderton, Kelly McDonald and the rest of the gallery's staff.
