Aboriginal Heritage Office
Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore) (16:53:40):
I give a heartfelt congratulations to the Aboriginal Heritage Office [AHO] on the organisation's twenty-fifth birthday. The Aboriginal Heritage Office is a unique partnership sponsored by five local councils in northern Sydney: North Sydney, Ku-ring-gai, Lane Cove, Northern Beaches and Willoughby. The role of the AHO is to manage Aboriginal sites locally, support the five councils that sponsor the organisation and provide community education, including free walking tours. The organisation also operates an engaging museum that offers visitors an in-depth cultural display. I was delighted to join around 50 dignitaries for the AHO's official birthday party at the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability in Waverton in my electorate. Following a smoking ceremony, we heard from the AHO's dedicated staff, volunteers and supporters, finishing off the event with the cutting of a birthday cake to symbolise and celebrate 25 years of the organisation and its service to Aboriginal culture and the engagement of community members in that history, past and future. I congratulate AHO manager Brent Emmons and his fantastic team of staff on this important anniversary and the work they do every day.
