Milsons Point Post Office

Together our community rallied to save the Milsons Point post office from a closure that would have disproportionately impacted our small businesses, our seniors and those living in social housing. The announcement of its closure came as a major shock to our community, particularly to local small businesses and the approximately 400 seniors living in Greenway social housing who rely on its services. Through strong local advocacy—including representations to the New South Wales Minister for Transport seeking improved rental negotiations and appeals to the Federal Minister for Communications, alongside a community petition and rallies—Australia Post reversed its decision. I acknowledge Venietta Slama‑Powell, owner of Bloomingales, whose leadership in organising the petition and rallies showed how vital the post office is to residents. I also recognise Bryce Gunn from the Greenway Tenants Group, Milson Precinct committee secretary Michael Bracka, and my Federal colleagues Zali Steggall, MP, and Senator Andrew Bragg for their advocacy. I recognise that Transport for NSW listened to our advocacy, and its decision to enter into commercial terms enabled the post office to remain open. I congratulate our community.
