Bradleys Head Declared A Military Memorial of National Significance

—Few places capture the depth of our naval history and sacrifice quite like Bradleys Head, and this week it has received the national recognition it so richly deserves. The Bradleys Head Naval Memorials have been formally declared one of just nine Military Memorials of National Significance in Australia, placing this treasured Mosman site alongside the Shrine of Remembrance and the Sydney Cenotaph. This recognition is particularly fitting as Australia marks 125 years of service by the Royal Australian Navy. Bradleys Head holds a unique place in our nation's story – it is the only naval memorial in Australia where all passing Australian and foreign warships must render ceremonial honours when entering or leaving Sydney Harbour. At its heart stands the mast of HMAS Sydney (I), commemorating its role in the early engagements of the First World War. The site also carries the memory of the tragic loss of HMAS Sydney (II) and its 645 crew in 1941. This designation honours the service and sacrifice of all naval personnel and ensures their legacy endures for generations to come.
