Milton Ulladulla Hospital

Speaking of women's health, my question is directed to the Minister for Health, and Minister for Regional Health. At the last election, Labor promised to reinstate birthing services and install a CT scanner at Milton Ulladulla Hospital. Last week the Minister said that returning birthing services was "not really possible to do here at the moment". More than three years later, the hospital has no CT scanner. What does the Minister say to South Coast women and families who face the reality of Labor's broken promises on Milton Ulladulla Hospital?

— I have been around this Parliament for close to 20 years in different roles, and I have seen it is normally Government members who ask Dixers. But I will let it go through. I did not realise it was the question of the member for North Shore. I thought it was one from us.

I think the member for North Shore asked about the CT scanner at Milton. The member for South Coast could probably give a better update than me.

Mr RYAN PARK:

Firstly, we are delivering that. Secondly, I address the issue raised about birthing and maternity services. We have delivered more in maternity services in the past few years at Milton Ulladulla Hospital than members opposite did in 12 years. We are rolling out a midwifery group practice at that service, which members opposite may not even know about. That is continuity of care and considered one of the benchmarks—

My point of order is taken under Standing Order 129, relevance. The question was about Labor's broken promises on birthing services and a CT scanner. Can the Minister answer that?

The member for North Shore, of all people, talks about relevance.

Point of order: It would be appreciated if the Minister withdrew the comment about the member for North Shore. It was unparliamentary.

The SPEAKER:

The Manager of Opposition Business can certainly make that request. It was probably an intemperate quip. I ask the Minister to reflect on whether he will withdraw the comment, but it is up to him.

Mr RYAN PARK:

This shows that people always need to check their facts. That is a good lesson for members of this place and for the students in the gallery. Unfortunately, when members opposite were in government, they did not shut one birthing service, they did not shut or suspend five birthing services, and they did not shut or suspend 10 birthing services. They shut or suspended 14 birthing services. We will continue to invest in maternity services. We will continue to invest in birthing services. We will continue to invest in midwifery group practices. We will continue to invest in homebirthing. We will continue to invest in women every single day.
