My question is directed to the Minister for Women. When the Minister made representations to the Minister for Families and Communities in support of an ex gratia payment awarded on 24 September 2004 against departmental advice, did the Minister know that the carer had close links to the Labor Party?

— I would thank the member for North Shore for the question, but I am confused as to how it relates to my portfolio responsibilities. I made no representations as part of my ministerial portfolio in relation to this matter. However, if the House would like me to respond on representations I made as the local MP, I am more than happy to say that from time to time it is standard practice for members of Parliament to make representations to Government Ministers on behalf of their constituents. Representations were made by my electorate office to Minister Washington's office asking for the issues raised in the constituent's correspondence to be examined. I have absolutely no personal relationship with the person who made the representations.
