North Sydney's First Nations Art Residency

—I am pleased to recognise the inaugural North Sydney First Nations Artist Residency, an inspiring initiative that is placing art, culture and Country at the heart of our community. Launched earlier this year, the residency provides acclaimed First Nations artists Dr Emma Hicks, Nathan mudyi Sentance and Jodie Dowd with a fully subsidised creative space at the Alfred Street Studios in Milsons Point, creating opportunities to deepen their artistic practice while strengthening connections with the local community. The program is supported by Cammeraygal Elder Aunty Jeanie Moran and delivered in partnership with Yamaji Wajarri artist Nicole Monks. Each artist brings a unique and accomplished creative practice, spanning film, drawing, murals, sculpture, poetry, writing, weaving and storytelling. Through their work, they invite our community to engage with First Nations histories, cultures and perspectives in meaningful and lasting ways. I congratulate the artists, mentors and organisers behind this important initiative, and I am excited to see their work and the positive impact it will bring to my local community.
