Shadow Minister for Health, Kellie Sloane and Shadow Minister for Women, Felicity Wilson have visited Milton Ulladulla Hospital to speak with locals about the Minns Government’s silence on their key election promise to return birthing services to the hospital.
Kellie Sloane said, voters on the South Coast took Labor at their word when they campaigned on returning birthing services to Milton Ulladulla Hospital, but two years later and the community has heard crickets.
"Labor said babies would be born at Milton Ulladulla Hospital, they even had it on campaign corflutes. But two years later the community is learning that the Minns Government is all talk and no delivery – literally”, said Ms Sloane.
“The draft health services plan for Milton Ulladulla Hospital makes clear that a return of birthing services would require a significant investment in a redeveloped hospital with new birthing suites and the recruitment of midwives and obstetricians. The Minns Government needs to be upfront with the community on whether this investment will be made and what the timeline is.”
Felicity Wilson said, maternity services are a big issue in regional NSW and the South Coast community deserves transparency from the Minns Government on the return of birthing services to Milton Ulladulla Hospital.
“It is an important time in your life when you are welcoming a baby into this world. Mums and families need some certainty around whether this election promise will be delivered, and they deserve that from this Government.”
The former Coalition Government committed $7.5 million for Milton Ulladulla Hospital to deliver new and expanded services, including a CT scanner and upgrades to the Community Cancer Centre.
