Published on 07 March 2022

North Shore’s Emily Bobis has been named as a finalist in the 2022 NSW Women of the Year Awards in the NSW Young Woman of the Year Category.

Member for North Shore Felicity Wilson MP said this is fantastic recognition for the work Ms Bobis has done in our community.

“It is community leaders like Emily Bobis who make North Shore a wonderful place to call home,” Ms Wilson said.

Emily Bobis is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Compass IoT, a tech start-up whose real-time data analysis of cars swerving or breaking to detect trends and patterns halved the number of car crashes on one of Sydney’s busiest roads. Ms Bobis won the 2021 UTS Startup of the Year and UTS Best Start-up. She was also a finalist for the 2021 Sydney Young Entrepreneurship Award, and named a Top 50 Small Business Leader in 2021 by Inside Small Business Magazine.

Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said the 31 remarkable women and girls named as finalists are making a significant impact across the board, from science to education, health, industry, culture and community.

“I’m always inspired by the calibre of women nominated for these awards and the outstanding contributions they are making in their communities across the State,” Mrs Taylor said.

“Despite all of the challenges COVID-19 has thrown our way there were more than 300 nominations, showcasing incredible women from all walks of life who are championing positive change.”

“These finalists are an inspiration to us all and it’s wonderful to see them getting the acknowledgment they deserve.”

There are seven award categories in the 2022 program, including the Premier’s Award for NSW Woman of the Year which is selected from the winners of all the categories.

Winners will be announced on 9 March, at the 2022 NSW Women of the Year Awards at the International Convention Centre Sydney and livestreamed online.

The awards are part of NSW Women’s Week from Monday, 7 March to Sunday, 13 March.
