Work kicks off on newly approved major upgrade of Mosman High

Published on 14 August 2021

In an exciting week for the Mosman High School community, planning approval has been granted and now work is kicking off for the major upgrade and new purpose built facilities.

From today, site preparation, trenching and excavating, utility and services installation, and resurfacing works will get started.

This once-in-a-generation project will transform Mosman High into a modern place of learning for current and future students.

Our students and school staff continue to endure the disruption of the pandemic and a shift to online learning, but as we work to emerge from lockdown they will see the first signs of the future with this new investment in learning underway.

The early works will refurbish existing buildings and facilitate the installation of temporary buildings for students and teachers to help minimise disruption to learning once the main works start later this year. The construction site will comply with current COVID restrictions and operate under a COVID Safe Plan, limiting who and how many people can be on site at any one time. You can read more about the works here.

Once complete, the upgrade will deliver 16 new classrooms, a new multipurpose hall, library, canteen, rooftop play space, and staff administration facilities.

The new facilities will mean the school can meet the demands of a growing student population by accommodating up to 1,200 students.

This upgrade is about modernising a school already recognised for its outstanding academic record and creative arts program, with a design that is complementary to the village aesthetic of Mosman.

The Berejiklian Government is making record investments in public education and the Mosman High upgrade is part of my pledge to deliver major upgrades to three of our local schools.

Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said the new facilities will greatly benefit the whole school community for years to come.

“We want our children to have the best education possible, and providing high-quality school facilities is a key part of that,” Minister Mitchell said.

Starting this weekend, the early works prepare the site for new temporary classrooms, administration office and library, which will be installed during the September school holidays and used by students and staff while the main upgrade works are underway.

The NSW Government is investing $7.9 billion over the next four years, continuing its program to deliver 215 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. This is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.
