Headland Preservation Group 25th Anniversary

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)

—Speaker I want to recognise the Headland Preservation Group [HPG] as it celebrates 25 years of service to our community. In 1997, the NSW Government committed to preserving Middle Head from development. This outcome was secured with strong support from the only recently formed HPG. The HPG, other community groups, and residents lobbied heavily for further Government protection. In 1998, Prime Minister John Howard formed the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust to protect ex‑Defence lands including North Shore's beautiful headlands. The HPG is currently led by passionate President Jill L'Estrange, Vice President Julie Goodsir, and their dedicated board and members. I have met with Jill and Julie extensively about work we can do to protect the important environmental, Indigenous, and military heritage of the land. I am proud to have helped champion the walking track project which is underway that will link Middle Head to the Sydney Harbour Scenic Walk. Congratulations to the HPG on turning 25, I look forward to celebrating with you. Thank you to Jill and Julie, and the entire HPG team, both past and present, for all of the amazing work you do to protect this this stunning stretch of land.
