Beauty Point and Middle Harbour Public SchoolS

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore) (15:52:11):

I recognise Beauty Point and Middle Harbour Public schools for their significant donations to support other primary schools and students in Tonga. As members would all be aware, Tonga experienced a devastating volcanic eruption and tsunami in January of this year. Both of those local schools made the effort to donate and pull together old, high-quality school furniture, which was shipped to Tonga on 9 May. Those donations will go a long way in supporting the rebuilding of the affected schools in Tonga. I thank the school principals, Marion Walsh-Gay and Laura Barry, for supporting that initiative and organising the donations, as well as all of the school community involved. It also would not have been possible without the honorary Consul-General of Tonga, Louise Waterhouse, who is also a constituent of mine. Louise's dedication to supporting Tonga following this multi-disaster is truly admirable and reflects her family's contribution over generations. She has been working with my office and team in approaching schools to help organise the huge donation drive to Tonga. I am pleased to hear that they received an extensive amount of donations and that the shipping ran smoothly. I congratulate the schools and Louise for their efforts.
