Local Artist Opens Ben Boyd Road Gallery

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)

—Speaker a new art gallery and studio has opened in my local community on Ben Boyd Road in Neutral Bay. The gallery is owned by local Deane Russell who is the resident artist who hopes that the gallery will grow into a wider community-based social hub. Deane has been painting since the early 2000's and has had a number of successful exhibitions. The new gallery is used as his studio and Deane paints in the space most days with his current works including a number of pieces from his recent sojourn into the Northern Territory, while also reflecting previous canvasses and work living near the beach. Deane is also a sculptor and is exhibiting a few of his works from clay firings using native timbers and earth materials from the outback in the Northern Territory. In addition to painting and sculpting, Deane is an avid fiction writer as well as poet. One of his aims is to grow gallery into a community artist hub and feature local poetry nights. There are no fixed opening hours but if the gallery is open, Deane is happy for you to stop by an have a chat.
