Hospital Equipment to Assist Tonga Disaster Recovery

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)

—Speaker I would like to acknowledge the incredible staff at Royal North Shore Hospital who will be sending equipment to Tonga following the devastating volcano eruption in January. This equipment will be sent to Vaiola Hospital in Tonga's capital city Nuku'Alofa which was destroyed during the eruption. A special mention to Professor Bruce Robinson, an endocrinologist at Royal North Shore, and Northern Sydney Local Health District Chief Executive Deb Willcox, who organised the charitable project in under 24 hours. The equipment includes 25 beds and mattresses, 40 over-bed tables, four medication trolleys, one bariatric wheelchair, one standard wheelchair, three sets of crutches and one electric examination table. Professor Robinson has a special connection with the people of Tonga as he was the team doctor for the Tongan athletes during the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. This equipment will be essential for patients and staff and so I congratulate Professor Robinson and Deb Willcox, along with all the staff at Royal North Shore Hospital for this charitable donation. I look forward to seeing the equipment collected and delivered to Tonga in the coming weeks.
