On a wet and breezy morning, I joined with members of Middle Harbour Yacht Club for its annual season opener and sail past. Like many things, the past few seasons have been disrupted by COVID so there was a buzz of excitement in the room, with a fresh season ahead this summer. I make special mention of club member Jack Stening. Jack is a dedicated member, volunteering much of his time supporting the marina committee and raising money for many projects around the club, including the new race committee boat named in his honour. His Sydney 36, Stormaway, is often on the podium in the many series they compete in. I was fortunate enough to present Jack with his life membership badge on the day, something that is well deserved for all his hard work within the club. I also recognise Susanna Westling, who was recently appointed as the Vice Commodore of cruising at the club's annual general meeting in July. I give a special thanks to the club CEO, Mark Maybury, the club captain, Bryan Moore, and all the members who participated on the day. I wish them a great season, great racing and great cruising.
