Monte Students Excel at the Festival of Speech Competition

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)

—Speaker, I acknowledge students from Monte Sant' Angelo Mercy College, in my electorate, for their recent success at the Festival of Speech held at Pymble Ladies' College. The competition featured 27 teams from independent Girls' Schools across the state. Monte students entered into multiple categories: Current Affairs, Public Speaking, Debating and Reading. I recognise year nine students Alannah Byrne, Annie Taylor, Elise Boyle, and Selina Ye, who won the competition's Junior Division for their strong debating performance. I also recognise Abigail Camilleri and Jorja Casamento, who participated in the Public Speaking Division. In the Senior's Current Affairs and Debating Divisions', Monte was well represented by Angelic Talevi, Charley Georgiou, Lillian Taswin, Samantha Lee, Ava Keevers, Isabelle Le Busque and Mackenzie Mayne. It requires a great deal of courage to get up and speak in front of people, particularly your peers, so I congratulate and recognise these students for their participation in public speaking. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for this group of talented girls.
