Remembrance Day

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore) (00:18:52):

Remembrance Day marks the end of one of the most significant and devastating conflicts that the world has experienced, with over 20 million civilian and military deaths, including more than 60,000 Australians and a further 156,000 wounded, gassed or taken prisoner. This year I joined with the North Sydney RSL sub-Branch and the community at the North Sydney War Memorial to recognise Remembrance Day. I acknowledge the committee's hard work, and I thank Alex Wilson, Geoff Watson, Chris Greatrex and Mick Cullen. I make a special mention of the guest speaker, Captain Marc Pavillard, CSC, RAN, who delivered a moving and often emotional commemorative address. He is shortly stepping down from his role.

I also thank the Chaplain Tammy Dunne and Commander Mick Miller, who is about to leave us as the commanding officer of HMAS, and sailors from HMAS who formed the catafalque party. I was especially pleased to see so many local schools in attendance, including Neutral Bay Public School, Wenona School, Loreto Kirribilli, Marist Catholic College North Sydney, Monte Sant' Angelo Mercy College, Shore School, Cammeraygal High School, North Sydney Demonstration School, St Aloysius' College and the 1st North Sydney Scout Group. Lest we forget.
