Balmoral Swim for Cancer 2023

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)

—Local swimmers braved the wind and rain to dive head first into the 32nd Balmoral Swim for Cancer in early April. More than 1,500 swimmers took part in this iconic fixture of the Balmoral calendar, raising much needed funds for the Children's Cancer Institute whose mission is to cure all children of cancer. Balmoral Swim for Cancer has supported the Children's Cancer Institute since 2006, helping drive their childhood cancer research towards uncovering a cure. The swims vary in distance from 1km around the island to 5km around the bay, complete with the Balmoral team challenge and school relay challenge. Amazingly this year the Balmoral Swim for Cancer raised over $115,000 which is an overwhelming achievement contributed by participants own fundraising and sponsorship. I acknowledge the community sponsors in particular who support this event, Balmoral Beach Club, Marine Rescue NSW Middle Harbour, HMAS Penguin, Mosman Council, Penny's Quality Butcher, and D&M. I thank all the local schools who participated, Mosman High, St Aloysius, Redlands, Shore, Beauty Point Public, Wenona, Queenwood, and Mosman Prep. A special congratulations to all the swimmers, sponsors, volunteers, schools, and community organisations who made the day possible.
