Sisters of Saint Joseph Reconciliation Action Plan
Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)
—I recognise the Sisters of Saint Jospeh at Mary Mackillop Place in North Sydney who recently launched their Reconciliation Action Plan, that coincided with the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Although the Sisters of Saint Jospeh have a long history with Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities, the Congregation is now seeking to fomalise its ongoing commitment to reconciliation. The Sisters of Saint Joseph engaged celebrated artist Gumbaynggirr/Dhungatti man Richard Campbell to create a painting in recognition of the Congregation's Reconciliation Action Plan. It is an incredibly detailed piece of artwork, that follows the history of our indigenous people, depicted as part of the rainbow serpent as it makes its way across the land. I would like to recognise Sister Monica Cavanagh, the Congregational Leader, for the warm welcome to Mary Mackillop Place, and the collaboration that the Sisters of Saint Jospeh have led with indigenous people to deepen their commitment to walk alongside First Nation people as they seek voice, treaty, and truth-telling. I want to congratulate the Sisters of Saint Joseph for their initiative in seeking further reconciliation with our indigenous peoples.
