Jersey Day 2023

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)

—Speaker, I would like to recognise the work of the Gremmo family for all of their efforts towards the raising of awareness of organ donation through their founding of Jersey Day. Michael and Kylie Gremmo established Jersey Day after the unfortunate passing of their son Nathan in 2015 in honour of Nathan's organ donation, which saved the lives of 6 other people. It was very fitting that Nathan posted on his Instagram account prior to the accident, "You only live once, but if you do it right once is enough." Approximately 1,800 people are currently waitlisted for an organ transplant and 14,000 people are on dialysis in need of a kidney transplant. The purpose of Jersey Day is to raise awareness about the possibility of organ donation, spark discussion about the issue and ultimately encourage others to join the Australian Organ Donor Register. Participants are encouraged to wear their favourite jersey to school or work, and to post a photo of themselves in their jersey on social media. I myself wore my jersey on September 1st in support of this year's Jersey Day.
