Allan Border Oval

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore) (18:41:40):

Over the weekend one of Australia's greatest cricket test captains and Mosman-raised local, Allan Border, was immortalised in bronze alongside the official opening of the new pavilion at Allan Border Oval. I was pleased to join many hundreds of locals who turned out, despite the rain, alongside another former Australian cricketer and captain, Ian Chappell, for the special occasion. For those who do not know, Allan was a middle‑order batsman who scored over 11,000 runs across 156 test matches for Australia. His status in the game is recognised by Australia's player of the year being awarded the Allan Border Medal. The new bronze statue captures Allan playing a graceful cover drive. It shares a likeness to the statue that resides at The Gabba and was reproduced with permission of the artist, Linda Klarfeld. The new state-of-the-art pavilion and grandstand form part of a new-look sporting and community facility designed to meet contemporary requirements for sports, while respecting the heritage legacy of Mosman Park. I know Mosman Cricket Club in particular is looking forward to using it next summer for their cricket season. I congratulate Allan, Mosman Council and all involved with this long-awaited project.
